went to this place call Rosette at Lloyd Road. its run by SHATEC students as part of their training. so basically we were served by students, food cooked by students la. i also go there for my training mah - training by my sis haha... kidding la. sis being very nice gimme belated bday treat.
the restaurant is situated in a colonial-styled three-storey building. at nite, the outside amber spotlight shoot onto the white structure hor, wah looks damn nostalgic le! nice! inside, the place is lit by a soft amber light and its quite cozy and quite lomantic also. but tonite sala company la, next time bring date then we talk about lomantic la. haha!
usually the place serves ala carte menu one, but this week special got set menu only, which was specially planned by the manager who is also a student. he quite busy one, whole nite went to each table to talk cock and ask feedback/comments. very young and friendly chap. for convenience, i shall label him as D. so D went through the menu with us but sad to say, most of it i catch no ball so i just put up my best smile lo. heng face din cramp.
anyway back to the menu, so basically the courses were fixed except for the main course where we got a choice between salmon and seabass, and steak. (like SQ flight like that - "would you like to have fish or beef?" heehee!) sis chose fish, me steak. the other courses consisted of appetizer (i know got scallop, shrimp, and some tomato thingy), cream of cauliflower soup, serbet, chocolate mousse dessert, and kopi/tea.
D came over to our table at least once during each course to talk cock and ask for our feedback. also explained to us to some extend how it was prepared and what special considerations he took when planning the courses.
overall, the food was pretty good. while the portion for each course is understandably small, all in all, i din leave the place with an empty feeling lo. service was excellent and the overall ambience of the place is really relaxed and comfortable.
and the damage? ............ ssshhh!! dun tell you but definitely can bring gal gal to this place next time. heehee...
some pointers from my fine dining 'training' for the uninitiated:
- traditional fine dining got 9 courses and typically dun have set dinner. so gotta choose from an overwhelming list of appetizers, main courses etc etc.
- the fork always faces downward. so when you wanna pick up stuff from the plate, place it on the convex side of the fork. ~ pretty stupid way of using the tool, if you ask me...
- when scooping soup from the bowl, scoop away from your body. if you have to tilt the bowl, also tilt it away from you instead of toward you.
